Whether you want to show off your patriotism or you just want to give your drab sandals a makeover, this craft is perfect for you. You can personalize this craft all you want by choosing different ribbons, buttons, and colors of puff paints. There is even an easy no-sew version of this craft. So get yourself ready for the beach, park, or where ever you do your summer gallivanting with these super cute flip-flops.

Supplies:

  1. 1 pair of flip flops
  2. needle and thread
  3. ribbon ( I suggest between 4/8” and 6/8” thick)
  4. buttons
  5. puff paints
  6. scissors
  7. tacky glue

Instructions (sew version):

(view photos below to clarify instructions)

1. Measure out and cut 2 pieces of 10” ribbons.

2. Loop ribbon and then move where the ribbon overlaps itself to the center of the top of the loop.

3. Stitch the center to keep in place. (You may use tacky glue if you wish, but it may make further sewing difficult.)

4. Measure out and cut 2 pieces of 2” ribbons.

5. Loop the 2 inch ribbon around the center of the the bow and stitch (all sewing should be done by an adult) (or glue) in place. Set bow aside.

6. Stitch on button or stacked buttons (I stacked 2 buttons in this example) onto the center of the bow. (optional)

7. Practice design on a piece of paper with the puff paints to decorate the straps of the sandals.

8. Decorate the straps of the sandals with the puff paint. Let dry

9. Once dry choose where to place the bow. (On this example I chose to on the strap on the outside of the foot.)

10. Glue bow with either hot glue or tacky glue. Hot glue will probably hold better, but hot glue should only be used by adults. ( Use caution with hot glue because it does burn the skin if there is contact.)

11. If tacky glue was used either hold it until dry or use a clothes pin to hold it on until dry. ( You also can use a thread and needle to sew the bow onto the strap if it is cloth, or sew through the bow and loop the thread around the strap for a stronger hold.)

Instructions (no-sew version):

1. Measure out and cut 2 pieces of 14” ribbons.

2. Practice design on a piece of paper with the puff paints to decorate the straps of the sandals.

3. Decorate the straps of the sandals with puff paint. Let dry.

4. Tie bow onto sandal strap and glue on to keep from slipping.

5. Sew on button to center of bow if desired.
